I will now describe my weekend, even though it is Wednesday. This delay is explained by the fact that I only realized how odd my weekend was after Chris asked me if I did anything interesting.

Presenting the Second Annual Martin Luther King Day Thanksgiving Dinner.

Yes, you read correctly. For the second MLK holiday in a row, I spent the day running around in the kitchen with four other girls cooking turkey. And stuffing, and mashed potatoes, and gravy, and vegetable casserole, and homemade bread.

In fact, I had two feasts this weekend, as I spent Friday night enjoying a dinner party at James' (since he has recently returned from cooking school in Italy).

On Sunday night I went out clubbing with a group of guys, which is odd for two reasons. First, I don't usually go clubbing (and the guys I went with certainly don't usually go clubbing). Second, people almost always arrive at clubs as either a) gender-segregated groups, or b) couples. It felt really strange to walk into a club surrounded by six guys. I told them they were my bodyguards. The DJ played a techno mix of the "I Have a Dream" speech.

side note: Is it possible that I am already getting renewal notices for this domain? Has it been that long already?

other side note: 1.21 GIGAWATTS HAS ARRIVED.

I'm sure everyone has met the following type of geek:

"Hey, guess what?!! I just ordered a brand new blah blah blah processor blah blah RAM blah 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!"

I always have trouble mustering up the appropriate level of empathic excitement. Today (and until my new processor and motherboard arrive), I have become that kind of geek. Rather than telling everyone I know the exact specifications of what I bought, I will try to restrain my excitement to just repeatedly checking my Fedex tracking number.

A few days ago I received an email from the EE department begging for teaching assistants in several classes. I almost replied to say that perhaps people would be more willing to TA for them if the wages were anywhere close to competitive with the CS department. I thought better of it. Today I received the following email. This email has not been edited in any way.

There are no 5 subject, pocketed notebooks in this entire godforsaken city.

I'm not even asking for college rule or a nice color any more. I just want a 5 subject notebook. Is that so much to ask?

- huge glasses of cherry coke from Steak 'n' Shake
- doing a million times better on the GRE than I thought I was doing as I was taking it
- dancing to "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" with a guy who knows how to catch all the breaks
- boys with ponytails
- Christmas present from Jenny (I assume "borrowing Jenny's sewing machine" is included in the gift?)

Ok, so I usually don't do the whole New Year's resolution thing. It's always seemed kind of silly to me, since no one keeps their resolutions anyway. But I figure if I post them in this semi-public forum, I'll be more likely to actually pay attention to them. This is officially the first time I have attempted to make any New Year's resolutions.

Resolutions for the coming semester, not necessarily the entire year:
Reread this post regularly.
Wake up at a reasonable hour on M W F, even though I don't have class to go to.
(Bonus points if I wake up and go jogging on those days.)
Don't oversleep and then go to class looking like a slob because I had no time to get ready.
(It's only 2 days a week, I can handle that, right?)
Go to bed by 1am (2am on weekends). Only break this rule in cases of severe homework.
Don't ever sleep past noon.
Make straight A's.

Checking in via new ethernet card, mouse, cpu fan and hard drive. Apparently there is an exact three year threshold before computer equipment starts breaking?
